This impressive natural landscape that I recently had the opportunity to visit is one of the great attractions of the so-called Atlantic Coast Route , a journey to make by car that allows you to discover the most interesting corners of this area of Ireland.
I advance you that the Cliffs of Moher are an impressive geological formation that is located in County Clare .
With an elevation in its highest parts of more than 200 meters above the sea, the area of cliffs stretches for eight kilometers.
Formed over 320 million years ago, the Cliffs of Moher today are a natural area of special protection where seabirds abound, among which are the puffins ( puffins ), which can be seen from mid-April to end of July.
Visit Cliffs Moher
To visit the Cliffs of Moher you must arrive at the Visitor Center , a modern building integrated in a mountain in the form of a natural cave, and located opposite the car park.
It is interesting that you start your visit by entering the aforementioned Visitor Center to visit the area known as the Cliffs Exhibition , where you can discover the history of this impressive rock formation, as well as other topics such as the ocean and human activity.
Your visit will be completed with the viewing of two short ten and five minute panoramic movies with spectacular views of the cliffs.
The prices of the tickets to visit this exhibition are, adults, 6 euros; senirors +65, students and disabled, 4 euros; and under 16, years, free.
From there you can go to the most visited section of the Cliffs of Moher .
First you will reach the main platform, a large lookout point facing south, with views of the area known as Hags Head . From there, in your migration time you can see the puffins.
From this platform you can go south along the cliff in a walk of about 10 kilometers. You will also reach the southern platform from where you can also see puffins and other marine birds.
However, it is the walk that heads north the most frequented by visitors.
Also skirting the cliff by a path properly conditioned, in a tour that will take you about 15 minutes will go up to the Tower of O’Brien .
It is a construction in the form of a tower that was built in 1835 to fulfill the function of a lookout for the already numerous tourists that concentrated the Cliffs of Moher .
It is said that from above, on a clear day, you have a great panoramic view that covers five counties of the Atlantic coast. The price of the ticket is 2 euros.
Hiking Cliffs Moher
But you still have another option to make a more complete and different visit of these impressive cliffs , outside the most tourist routes.
It is about making a hiking route of little more than three hours by the cliffs, starting from the village of Doolin , north of them, where they begin to rise from the plain.
Pat, a restless farmer who resides in Doolin , and Gaelic football player passionate about his land, began to convince 19 farmers in the area seven years ago to go enabling a path so that it was fully accessible for any tourist to do this walk.
The result is the current hiking trails that he has been carrying out for two years as a guide through Moher .
