In a tour of tourism in the north of Morocco a very popular destination is the great city of Tangier , which during the past century has forged an image of an international city.

That happened to me on my first trip to Tetouan , a city that in recent times I am visiting with some frequency.
My only previous experience of a trip to Morocco was the visit of Marrakech , a city that I loved, but that has an undoubted tourist character.
Therefore, it was really surprising to arrive in Tetouan, a city with a long history linked to Spain, and so close to our country, and not to find practically Westerners in its streets.
Now that after several visits and I know better this city located in the foothills of the Moroccan Rif , I’ll give you some tips to visit Tetouan , as well as enough arguments to finally consider it worth your visit.
Why Tetuán is a World Heritage Site
From the outset I will tell you that Tetouan is a city declared a World Heritage Site thanks to its medina.
Indeed, Unesco highlighted in 1997 the great importance that from the eighth century had the old Titawin , now Tetouan , as a contact between the North African region of present-day Morocco and Andalusia.

How to get to Tetouan
Located about 60 kilometers east of Tangier , where you can get on a cheap flight of just one hour from Madrid, Tetouan also easily access after crossing the Strait from Algeciras to Ceuta , or the aforementioned Tangier .
From Tetouan you will be in little more than an hour in the charming Chefchaouen , with its streets where the blue color acquires the main role.
The visit of Tetuán can be done perfectly in a single day, given that the historic center is not big and you can walk perfectly on foot.
