Morocco – 4 places of interest to visit near Tangier

Your visit to the old international city of Tangier , in the north of Morocco , will not be complete if you do not know any of the corners that are in its closest surroundings .

It is possible that Tangier arrives in your own car after crossing the Strait of Gibraltar from Spain, so you can move around without problems.

What to see near Tangier

From there you should head through the streets that take you west to reach the first visit, Cape Espartel .

On the way to this scenic enclave you will pass through an area with large mansions and the very wooded area of the Rmillate park .

Cabo Espartel

The Cabo Espartel is a beautiful corner where a lighthouse is located that was built in 1965.

It is a very touristy place, where the excursions arrive to enjoy the panoramic views of the nearby Spanish Atlantic coast , in which on clear days you can distinguish places like  Tarifa .

At Cabo Espartel you can find a tourist restaurant where at least I advise you to take a drink on your very nice terrace to enjoy the views of the coast.

Caves of Hercules

From Cape Espartel you must take the road that goes down to the beach area, on the way to the Hercules Caves , the most visited place around Tangier .

On the way to the caves you will see a beautiful view of the stunning beachthat is lost to the south.

The Hercules Caves are natural caves of limestone rock that in its most prominent corner shows a curious profile of the African continent, yes, seen in reverse.

This corner of archaeological value is wrapped in Greek mythology, which says that Hercules rested there after completing his twelve works, as well as after separating the mountains to open the Strait of Gibraltar .

The Caves of Hercules have been closed for a long time, but finally the enclave has already been opened to visitors after the refurbishment works for their visit, with modern facilities.

Hotel Le Mirage

Next to the entrance of the Hercules Caves is one of the most luxurious and exclusive hotels in Tangier .

I mean the hotel Le Mirage , a 5 star hotel located on the side of a cliff that falls towards the aforementioned impressive beach.

With European decoration, it is the chosen place to stay in your trips to Tangier by political, financial and sports personalities.

In its common areas you will see photos of many of those personalities and characters during your stay in Le Mirage .

It is worth seeing this other side of the neighboring country.

Asilah

This route that I have indicated to you runs very close to Tangier , less than 10 kilometers away, but if you have the opportunity, you should not miss the village of Asilah , which is some distance away, about 30 kilometers away.

Well by the highway that heads south, or better by the road that runs parallel to the majestic beach, in less than half an hour you will reach Asilah .

It is a small and charming coastal town , with a long history behind it.

Occupied by the Carthaginians, the Romans, the Spaniards and the Portuguese, in Asilah you find a charming medina surrounded by the wall that the latter built after their occupation at the end of the 15th century.

Now Asilah is an enclave in whose visit you can see corners with great charm.
